SCM Summer Associates
SCM annually seeks out new associates through our Summer Associate Program. Our program provides a unique training opportunity for first-and second-year law students. We attract candidates with strong academic and personal credentials from diverse backgrounds. We also look for candidates who are creative thinkers, have the ability to reason, work efficiently, and communicate effectively.
Summer associates are mentored throughout the summer and receive hands-on guidance and substantive feedback on their assignments. They are introduced to a mix of legal areas and assignments, tailored to suit the individual associate’s interests and strengths. In addition to regularly attending depositions, court hearings, and other proceedings, our summer associates have the opportunity to work in a variety of unique legal service areas practiced at the firm, in both the litigation and business law arena.
Because we strive to help our lawyers build their own client bases and be fully capable of handling their own cases, effort is devoted to developing future SCM attorneys through this program. There is a concentrated focus on building and fine-tuning writing, analytical, and advocacy skills. We foster an environment that allows for constant feedback on associates’ work to help hone their abilities.
Our program includes a strong and formalized educational component. SCM provides summer associates with a unique series of weekly luncheon seminars led by highly acclaimed attorney presenters, on practice topics, and guest speakers who address a myriad of real-world practices and procedures.
SCM is a warm and welcoming environment with an open-door policy. All attorneys and professional staff welcome the opportunity to interact with summer associates in and outside of the office. Planned baseball games, family barbeques, a golf outing and other social events provide opportunities to get to know one another outside the office setting.
