Trials

SCM’s trial experience rivals that of many other Utah law firms.

Today, very few litigators and law firms have substantial trial experience, due to the high percentage of cases that settle prior to ever going to trial.  This is not the case for our firm. Although we have extensive experience and the necessary skillset to settle matters, there are times when taking a case to trial is unavoidable.

When trial is inevitable, our lawyers are well prepared for the courtroom.  SCM’s trial attorneys have tried hundreds of cases in Utah state courts and federal court and also in several jurisdictions outside of Utah. For a representative listing of our trial experience, click here.

Having this level of trial experience is crucial when even a remote possibility of a trial is involved.  Lacking the experience for a successful trial outcome, places clients at a significant disadvantage throughout the litigation process, including serious settlement negotiations.

Our Trial Team

Our senior trial lawyers practice before all Utah state and federal trial and appellate courts and administrative agencies, and other states nationwide (click here to see a list of where our attorneys are admitted to practice).

In addition to our senior trial attorneys, our commitment to foster trial skills and experience among our younger attorneys and paralegals.  This commitment results in junior level attorneys, and their support teams, gaining substantive experience, with expanding roles and responsibilities as their skills progress.  This commitment also ensures that we can staff the litigation needs of our clients with the right skill sets to deliver effective representation in a gainful manner.

Our Trial Techniques

Heading to trial involves more than preparing a solid case.  There are countless factors that can impact the outcome, including jury selection, assessing a jury’s receptiveness to certain arguments and strategies, determining how best to present legal and factual arguments, and other unanticipated elements.

In addition to relying on our decades of experience in these matters, we established SnowTrial™ Consulting services to advise trial lawyers nationwide on effective trial techniques.  Our combined knowledge of trial practices and trial consulting, provides clients with an advantageous position in the courtroom.

A Leading Firm for High-Profile Cases

Our trial experience includes cases involving well-known Utah individuals and entities in high-profile cases.  We have gained a reputation for trying complex cases efficiently and skillfully, while adhering to the highest standards of ethics, and always keeping budget issues in mind.

Our reputation, ethical standards, and demonstrated performance at trial provide maximum leverage for our clients in litigation, and contribute significant credibility with the courts in which we regularly appear.

Firm and Attorney Recognition

As experienced Utah trial attorneys, our firm and many of our lawyers have been widely-recognized by legal associations. Such recognition includes being named to, or inducted into, several prestigious organizations, including the Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Defense Research Institute, and the International Association of Defense Counsel.
