Robert T. Denny


Robert Denny’s practice focuses on high stakes litigation, with an emphasis on representing businesses and defending professionals.  His practice also includes extensive experience in data security law and appeals work.

Robert’s commercial litigation practice includes assisting clients in disputes involving breaches of contract, trade secrets, non-compete agreements, defamation, interference with business relations, and business dissolutions.  Having previously served as in-house counsel for a multi-national corporation, Robert is uniquely qualified to address these issues.  He applies that experience in problem solving strategies and finding effective solutions for the individuals and businesses he represents.

A significant portion of Robert’s practice is also devoted to defending professionals who have been sued for malpractice or are facing other professional turmoil.  He takes pride in assisting other lawyers and has successfully defended many of Utah’s most prestigious lawyers, law firms, and many other professionals including real estate agents, insurance agents, accountants, and more.

Robert also has extensive experience supporting companies dealing with data security issues.  He was one of the first cyber security lawyers in Utah.  He has helped numerous companies respond to data breaches, prepare policies and procedures to protect sensitive information, and comply with state, national, and international data security laws and regulations.  Robert is a prolific speaker and author on a variety of cyber-related issues.

Additionally, Robert has significant experience navigating the appellate process.  He served a clerkship at the Utah Court of Appeals for (now Tenth Circuit) Judge Carolyn B. McHugh.  During law school he was a member of the national moot court team and received awards for his briefing and oral advocacy.  Robert has argued before the Utah Supreme Court and the Utah Court of Appeals.
