Form ADV Overhaul for RIAs

Contact: Daniel D. Hill

If you are an RIA subject to SEC review and/or audit, October 1, 2017 is an important date.  Starting October 1 your Form ADV needs to look substantially different.  For example, you will then need to include in your Form ADV:

  • A list of your 25 biggest branch offices; no longer just five;
  • The addresses of all of your social media accounts; not just your websites;
  • Your AUM will have to be broken down by client types; and
  • Whether your compliance officer(s) receives compensation from any outside party.

Gathering and adding some of this new information should not be too difficult.  On the other hand, preparing to disclose and disclosing some of this new information will definitely take time.  October 1 is not that far off, so planning ahead for the coming changes is highly recommended.
